Thurston Community Television – JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Media Trainer / Facilitator
Status: Part-Time work study (Must qualify for work study)
Reports to: Media Services & Media Education Manager
Compensation: $10 / hr, 10-15 hours per week

Background: Thurston Community Television is a non-profit 501(c) 3 corporation that manages the operations of the public, educational and government access channels on Comcast cable in Thurston County. This includes channels 3, 22 and 26 on the basic tier for all Comcast subscribers. TCTV productions consist of local government meetings, high school sports coverage and community access programs.

Position: The Media Trainer / Facilitators will aid in training and assistance for producers and volunteers that use the public access facilities. This will include conducting training workshops, one on one instruction, equipment check out as well as building and expanding our membership. They may be required to produce programming or assist staff with on location shoots as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Learns to operate all video equipment at TCTV facility.
  • Performs production equipment check-in/out.
  • Assists community producers with technical problems during productions/editing.
  • Maintains equipment storage room.
  • Very light equipment maintenance: cleaning heads, trouble- shooting tape jams, etc.
  • Assists and/or teaches TCTV video production workshops and orientations.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • All TCTV staff assist with general administrative duties including but not limited to answering phones, preparing mailings, copying forms and documents, greeting guests, conducting tours of the facility, answering questions.
  • When necessary, may work on production crews for TCTV community or government productions.

SKILLS/CHARACTERISTICS NEEDED:

  • Demonstrated experience and or training in video production, digital media, and/or film. Experience with non-linear editing, digital video cameras, and/or multi-camera studio production highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and good writing and verbal skills.
  • Knowledge of computer operation and software commonly used in an office setting is required.
  • Enthusiasm and a sense of humor.
  • Flexible availability, including weekend and evening shifts.

REQUIRED:

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Available and willing to work evenings and weekends.

OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the greater Thurston County community.
  • Knowledge of graphics applications, web publishing and internet video.
